German Design Act modernised

 MARQUES participated in the 30th meeting of the WIPO Standing Committee on Trademarks, Industrial Designs and Geographical Indications (SCT) in November 2013 in Geneva. Peter Gustav Olson from MAQS Law Firm in Copenhagen represented MARQUES.

The SCT is working on a new Design Law Treaty, which would harmonise basic filing requirements, for example the minimum requirements necessary for obtaining a filing date.MARQUES actively urged the delegates (typically bureaucrats from the national PTOs) to move swiftly and keep the requirements to a minimum. "Hopefully the Treaty will be concluded soon, possibly at a conference in Moscow next year," reports Peter, "but there still appears to be a major hurdle concerning the financing of technical assistance and capacity building in the developing countries."
