WIPO posted the following information on 22nd November: On January 1, 2017 the latest edition of the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of Registration of Marks (Nice Classification) will enter into force. The 11th edition of the Nice Classification will introduce 334 new terms, and amendments to fifteen class headings and 22 Explanatory Notes. The majority of the amendments arise from a joint proposal submitted by Japan, Switzerland, the United States, the European Union Intellectual Property Office and WIPO. WIPO will apply the 11th edition of the Nice Classification to all applications for international registration received by an Office of Origin on or after January 1, 2017. However, WIPO will not reclassify the list of goods and services under international registrations affected by renewals, subsequent designations or other changes filed after December 31, 2016. The list of goods and services relating to international registration affected by any change filed after December 31, 2016 will not be reclassified. To further assist users in complying with the changes, WIPO’s Madrid Goods & Services Manager will be updated in the database’s 18 languages. More information about the Nice Classification and the Madrid System is available on WIPO’s website
