Amendments to Common Regulations

Amendments to Rules 12, 25, 26, 27 and 32 of the Common Regulations and item 7.4 of the Schedule of Fees enter into force on 1^st July 2017, as set out in Information Notice No 11/2017 published by WIPO on 12^th June.

Key points are:

• Control by the International Bureau of WIPO of the classification of limitations to the list of goods and services made in international applications (Rule 12).

< >New requirement to list the goods and services in a request for the recording of a limitation according to the numbers of the classes contained in the international registration (Rules 25 to 27).New recording to introduce in the international registration indications concerning the legal nature of the holder or to change those indications (Rules 25 to 27, 32 and item 7.4 of the Schedule of Fees).Madrid Monitor introduces a simpler and more streamlined way to stay up to date on your international trade mark registration.

Features include text prediction functionalities and brand new image filtering. The intuitive interface enables you to identify the countries/regions designated in an international trade mark application and identify where protection has been granted or refused. You can also sent up email alerts and save and share search results.

Madrid Monitor will replace ROMARIN, Madrid E-Alert and Madrid Real-Time Status, which will no longer be available from late-2017.

Over the coming months WIPO will introduce improvements and new resources enabling users to access information and manage their trade mark portfolio faster and more effectively.

Madrid Member Profiles Database

The Madrid Member Profiles Database was launched on 14^th June and replaces the older compilation Countries Index. The new Database offer a portal to trade mark rules and examination procedures of Madrid System members.

Applicants preparing an international trade mark application can use the Database to uncover details about trade mark offices in target markets, including which types of trade marks can be protected and how to file an international application through their home office of origin.

After registration, the Database gives access to key procedures and time limits in the countries/regions designated.

Webinars

WIPO has launched a series of free interactive webinars on the Madrid System, which provide tips and practical guidance on a range of topics.

The first three webinars were held in June and covered How to use Madrid e-services effectively, Preparing your international application and How to prepare your list of goods and services with Madrid Goods & Services Manager.

The next webinars will cover topics including legal aspects of international registration, WIPO’s examination procedures, office examination and refusal procedures, classification issues and the new Madrid Monitor.
