Transparency Portal

Have you ever found it hard to track down a document you need on the EUIPO Register of Public Documents? If, so help is at hand: the Office has launched a Transparency Portal, a searchable entry point for all documents in the Register.

For ease of access, documents are organised into five categories:

  • Economic
  • Environmental
  • Staffing
  • Organisational
  • Social and relational

The main documents available include:

  • Strategic Plan 2020
  • Work Programme
  • EUIPO Budget
  • EUIPO Corporate Sustainability Report

Case Law Conference

Registration is now open for the second IP Case Law Conference, which takes place in Alicante on 7th and 8th May 2018. Topics to be covered include:

  • The interplay between trade marks, designs and copyrights
  • The role of Boards of Appeal as both European and international dispute resolution bodies
  • The case law concerning proceedings before the General Court and Court of Justice – which will have its own session for the first time
  • Conflicts between unregistered signs, domain names and trade marks
  • And, due to its growing importance, design case law

The event will be interactive and an attendance certificate will be provided on request. It will be held in English, with simultaneous interpretation into French and Spanish.

Read the programme and register here.

International cooperation and IP Key China

The latest edition of Alicante News provides an update on EUIPO’s international cooperation mission, extending the reach of the tools and services developed under the European Intellectual Property Network.

In 2017 the Office became the implementing agency for four new projects being launched in 2018:

  • IP Key China, launched on 17th January at an event in Beijing attended by Christian Archambeau, EUIPO Deputy Executive Director, Mr Chen Fuli, Director General of China’s Ministry of Commerce, and representatives of the European Commission and the EU Delegation to China
  • IP Key South East Asia
  • IP Key Latin America
  • ARISE+ (in south-east Asia)

These are in addition to projects in China and south-east Asia, which have closed, a project in India which closes in 2018 and a project in Russia which closed in 2017.

The total value of these projects is €25.5 million.

Alicante News also provides an update on the 13 TM5 cooperation projects, and 12 ID5 collaborative projects, which were reviewed at meetings held in Alicante last year.

In addition, EUIPO now has formal cooperation arrangements in place with 7 non-EU organisations, including new agreements with Chile and Taiwan.

In European cooperation, there were four visits to European IP offices in January 2018, with a further 20 planned in February and three in March. From 26th February to 2nd March, there will be a European Cooperation Projects Working Groups week, covering nine projects.

New back office

EUIPO rolled out a new back office on 24th to 25th February, as part of its Strategic Plan. It aims to integrate all the IT systems used for managing EUIPO’s trade mark and design registration services within one tool. For more information, visit the website or the EUIPO Twitter account.
