Latest news from EUIPO
MARQUES rounds up the latest developments at EUIPO, including the next window for SME applications, the publication of CP11 and CP12, the launch of blockchain for TMview and DesignView, and May's webinar programme
The third window for applications to the Ideas Powered for Business SME Fund is open from 1 to 31 May. SMEs can be reimbursed up to €1500 for IP pre-diagnostic services and/or trade mark applications. More information is available here. CP11 Common Practice on New types of marks: Examination of formal requirements and grounds for refusal was published on 14 April. It delivers a set of general principles and examples on the examination of formal requirements and grounds for refusal and/or invalidity regarding sound, motion, multimedia and hologram marks and the new ways of representing them. CP12 Common Practice/Recommendations on Evidence in trade mark appeal proceedings has also been published. It focuses on delivering a set of recommendations in relation to evidence, in particular, its types, means, sources and identification of relevant dates, as well as its structure and presentation, and the treatment of confidential evidence. Read more here. The EUIPO has launched the first European blockchain platform to better serve public IP institutions and their clients. TMview and DesignView now use blockchain to bring super-fast, reliable, and secure delivery of IP rights information. The 'genesis block' of the blockchain was created at 08.10 CET on 17 April 2021. At that moment, the EUIPO connected to TMview and DesignView via the blockchain to deliver trade mark and design data in real time. Find out more and watch an explanatory video on EUIPO's website. The EUIPO Academy has published details of five webinars to be held on Tuesdays during May. They include: "Register and fees options – the great unknown" and "Proof of reputation: what evidence to submit and how to structure it". Details of dates and times are available here.
