From the Observatory: Working Group meetings
|
The Observatory Working Group meetings took place take place from November 15 to 17 in Brussels. Sonia Santos And Maria Cecilia RomoLeroux represented MARQUES
|
The main points discussed were: - The Economics & Statistics Working Group members will comment on possible areas for the next EUIPO Academic Research Programme.
- Malware applications in relation to app squatting trends in the Apps & App stores workstream will be included.
- The new live event piracy workstream will be delivered to the Observatory.
- The Automated Content Recognition Phase 2 discussion paper will be circulated.
- The presentation on the Anti-Counterfeiting Blockathon Infrastructure will be circulated to gather additional comments from the participants.
- Participants will contact the Observatory regarding contributing to and exploring the Anti-counterfeiting Blockathon Infrastructure, the development of agorateka or any other topic of interest.
- It was requested to share any information on new trends and challenges related to the metaverse.
- The Observatory will organise meetings and workshops to address issues related to storage and destruction.
- Stakeholders will make known their position to DG TAXUD on the revision of the Customs Code and the coming revision of the Regulation 608/2013.
- The participants of the Enforcement Working Group will provide input on the Terms of Reference for the rights holders' guide.
- It was requested to share relevant studies for the literature review related to the preparation of the 4th IP Perception study. The draft questionnaire will be circulated.
- The following studies will be shared with the Observatory: study on audio-visual piracy and cyber risks for consumers, safe Internet Network materials for education, and materials for educating minors on the risks of purchasing counterfeits online.
- The presentation of the proposal for the EUIPO's website to the stakeholders for their input on structure and navigation and notably the studies section and IP in Europe map will be circulated.
- The draft agenda points and topics for the 2023 International IP Enforcement Summit will be circulated for comments and speakers' proposals.

Customs recordal in Kenya
|
The MARQUES Anti-Counterfeiting and Parallel Trade Team has formed a sub-group to obtain clarification on the mandatory Customs recordal system that has been introduced in Kenya. The deadline of 1 January 2023 is the date on which IP rights have to be recorded to comply with the local legislation
