Five takeaways from the recent MARQUES-WIPO meeting

Uwe Over of Henkel, First Vice-Chair of the MARQUES Council, has described a recent meeting between MARQUES representatives and WIPO officials as “very fruitful and satisfying”, and set out five topics for future work.

Uwe, who will become Chair of the Council next month at the Spring Meeting in Alicante, said the meeting – which took place in Geneva on 27th January – covered a range of topics and showed how MARQUES can and will be able to contribute to the various WIPO activities.
He highlighted five areas of future cooperation:

(1) MARQUES wants to strengthen its willingness and preparedness to actively participate in WIPO´s meetings and conferences.
(2) MARQUES will continue promoting WIPO topics to members and the practitioner world in order to support WIPO.
(3) MARQUES is keen to see WIPO actively participate in the MARQUES annual conference, both in the traditional slot in the programme and on other panels.
(4) MARQUES would like to intensify cooperation with WIPO in educational programmes, ideally formats tailored to the needs and expectations of MARQUES membership.
(5) MARQUES is planning to hold the annual conference in Geneva within the next few years and is seeking WIPO’s support in order to have some programme slots closely linked to WIPO content/locations.

Uwe said he appreciated the positive feedback from WIPO staff, and in particular Director General Francis Gurry, on all these topics, and also thanked the MARQUES members who participated in the meeting.

Look out for a full interview with Uwe in the March issue of HouseMARQUES!
