Bulgaria sees post-accession boom in trade mark litigation
Class 46 has learned from Bulgarian IP specialist Ventsi Stoilov that, according to investor.bg, 20% of Bulgarian companies have experienced trade mark conflicts in their business. About 74% of Bulgarian companies have trade mark, geographical indications or both. Trade mark litigation in the country -- whose trade mark laws are fully compliant with EU requirements -- is rising at the rate of 10% a year, a trend which is set to continue. Some 7,000 trade mark applications were filed in the Bulgarian Patent Office during 2007 and around 7,000 marks were registered. Among the most infringed goods were clothes, watches and cosmetics and similar goods, but there is reported to be some decrease in "trade mark plagiarism".
