German Federal Patent Court : Valentin
Happy Valentine's day....
The German Federal Patent Court (Bundespatentgericht) recently held that the word mark Valentin (in English: "Valentine") lacked the necessary distinctiveness and can thus not be registered as a trade mark for class 30 goods such as confectionary, cookies, sweets, chocolate, pralines, etc.
Case reference: 25 W (pat) 44/11 ("valentin") of 15 December 2012. Thanks go to Markenblog.de for finding this treasure via RA Thorsten Blaufelder's blog.
