Print piracy paused as Polish police seize fake cartridges
From the city of Opole, Poland, whose handsome coat of arms is illustrated here, comes news that the local police have dealt a blow against an international distributor of fake printing supplies, confiscating over 600 print cartridges for laser printers of a well-known brand in a warehouse. The goods seized were estimated to be worth PLN 350,000 (around 83,000 EUR). The cartridges were packaged in such a way that unknowing consumers would regard them as genuine. They were not, and their use would result in inferior print quality and damage to printing infrastructures.
The warehouse where the raid took place, was a subsidiary of a British-based company which sold fake goods both online and by phone. After the placement of an order, the warehouse distributed the counterfeits both inside and outside Poland. Those responsible, arrested during the raid, face prison sentences of up to two years and loss of any confiscated items.
