Record year for EUTM filings
The number of EUTM applications filed in 2021 increased by nearly 12% to 197,901 according to data published by EUIPO today.
This means the total number of applications filed since the EUTM was launched in 1996 is nearly 2.5 million.
In 2021, there were 165,862 e-filed applications, 31,976 International Registrations and 63 applications by mail.
Applicants from China led the way, with 34,374 applications, followed by those from Germany (27,564) and the United States (20,098).
Class 9 continues to be the most popular class, with 10.71% of applications, followed by class 35 and class 42.
Just over 20,000 oppositions were received in 2021, an increase of 6.5% on 2020.
There were 49,154 first renewals and 13,336 second renewals during the year.
