Germany: Consumers in Saxony prefer local brands
The German news site sz-online reports today that a representative survey conducted by the market research firm Marktforschungsinstitut Leipzig revealed that consumers in the German state of Saxony prefer local brands. The survey, which was conducted in December 2007, tried to establish how well known local brands are in Saxony. Sachsenmilch (Saxonymilk) was found to be the best selling brand in Saxony, holding a market share of 85% in the milk market segment. The second and third best selling brands in Saxony are also local brands: Sachsenobst (Saxonyfruit) and Riesaer Teigwaren (local pasta product). We recently reported about a similar trend in Switzerland where the strongest brands were also predominently local brands.
