INTERNATIONAL TRADE MARK LAW AND PRACTICE TEAM
To ensure and improve the legal position of brand owners in particular by pushing for harmonization of laws and practices at international, regional and national level.
Responsibilities/Mission:
The International Trade Mark Law and Practice Team's mission is to represent the interest of brand owners in the field of international trade mark law and practice. It supports MARQUES? goal of harmonisation of laws and practices by monitoring existing systems, reviewing new proposals and making representations where appropriate. It takes a special interest in the development of international systems operated by WIPO, such as the Madrid Protocol.

For each jurisdiction, correspondents address: the increase/decrease in applications; good and bad experiences; and tips and pointers.

However, Africa has seen what has been described as a "remarkable growth" since the mid 1990s. The International Trade Mark Law & Practice Team have produced a report looking at the Madrid Protocol in Africa.
